The latest Trenton Duckett news.

LEESBURG -- Acting on a new tip Thursday, Leesburg police and Lake County deputy sheriffs searched a Lake Harris canal for missing 2-year-old Trenton Duckett.

Police spokesman Maj. Steve Rockefeller said the sheriff's dive team combed the waters of Helena Run in Lake Harris for clues leading to the boy, but found nothing.

He said the tip was prompted by news last week that the boy's mother, Melinda Duckett, bought fuel Aug. 26 at a BP station at U.S. Highway 27 and State Road 48.

Police said the tipster may have spotted Melinda Duckett's silver 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse in the area of Helena Run on Aug. 27, the day Trenton was reported missing from his bed in his mother's apartment.

The tipster didn't call sooner, thinking Melinda and her son had not been in that area, but in the Ocala National Forest, which also was searched.

Rockefeller said authorities scoured the Helena Run area for about five hours.

Police are still searching but clues to the boy's whereabouts are few and far between. It looks like any clue as to what happened to Trenton Duckett went with Melinda Duckett to her grave. I still pray a miracle happens, but I am not optimistic.
