Commentary, sarcasm and snide remarks from a Florida resident of over thirty years. Being a glutton for punishment is a requirement for residency here. Who am I? I've been called a moonbat by Michelle Malkin, a Right Wing Nut by Daily Kos, and middle of the road by Florida blog State of Sunshine. Tell me what you think.

The Knucklehead of the Day award

Today's winner is the Sun-Sentinel newspaper. They get the award for the following.

Exhibit 233 of Hurricane hysteria South Florida style. The Sun-Sentinel is the worst so far as the three major daily newspapers go down here. It was announced yesterday that the Sun-Sentinel, Palm Beach Post, and Miami Herald will start sharing stories. Will they share my awards too? Not in this case, the Sun-Sentinel newspaper is today's Knucklehead of the Day.

She still gets proofed

A brief and funny moment from the hospital. On Wed. my sister-in-law Leonette pays me a visit at the hosp. After she goes for the night, I have a short conversation with my PCA. Went something like this.

PCA- How many children do you have?

Me- Two, both are angels in heaven.

PCA- Wasn't that your daughter in here earlier?

I'm 47, my wife Leonita turns 47 on Sept 18, Leonette turns 36 In October. LOL, I guess theoretically me and Leonita could have parented Leonette. With the one not so small problem, that my wife and I didn't meet till I was 27.

Leonette, who could still pass for someone in her early 20's, came to the USA from the Philippines on a work visa in 1999. She is a US citizen now, single and a registered republican. No this isn't a singles advertisement, but I'm sure Nanay(my mother-in-law) would be happy if Leonette finally married. To someone preferably Catholic too. I could say more but won't, for fear of feeling the wrath of the Filipina mafia.

Call this my Physical Therapy post for the day. My fingers are still numb, I hope they get better soon.

Home on the range

Where the two kitty cats fight over the couch I'm trying to rest on. LOL, I'm home after 16 days in the hospital. My discharge taking place Aug 29th around 1 pm.

How am I feeling? Pretty good except for numbness in three fingers on my right hand. This a result of surgery, it should get better. My hosp stay had its share of complications, pneumonia for one, my needing to remain tubed 24 hours after surgery was another, my return to the ICU after one day on the cardiovascular floor being another. I spent most of my first 9 days in the hosp. in ICU.

Blogging will be light, unless I can find something funny to say. Where's your jokewriter when you need them?

On temporary hiatus I hope

Tomorrow morning is when I have Heart valve surgery. I've heard of people coming home in five days, but my doctor outlined 10-12. At least one of which will be in ICU. One of the ICU nurses, a Filipina named Zarah, is a good friend of my wife Leonita. Zarah has been kind to tell me a lot of what lies ahead for me.

Right now I'm very scared of the open heart surgery operation I'm having. I won't be back to blogging before September. If I'm up to it, or rather can talk Leonita into doing it for me, I'll have a post on how I'm doing in a week or two.

The photo of me and Leonita is 10 years old. My wife remains as beautiful as ever.

He had a dream

I suggest none of TFM's readers have anything in thier mouth as they read this news.

Bill Clinton made a plea yesterday for a new emphasis on monogamy as a key element in the battle against Aids. The former US president, not noted for his ability to keep his own marriage vows, said it was very important to change people’s attitudes to sex.

In an interview with the BBC recorded in Africa, Mr Clinton said that increasing support for monogamy was not just a problem for the continent worst hit by Aids but for the world. “To pretend we can ever get hold of this without dealing with that – the idea of unprotected sexual relations with unlimited numbers of partners – I think would be naïve,” he said.
Truly a remarkable statement from a person with his history. Then its good advice, and as James Joyner at OTB points out "Perhaps this is a classic case of the old Vulcan proverb, Only Nixon can go to China?" Maybe there's one person out there that will listen.

On first reading this news, I told my wife I felt I was dreaming and hadn't been discharged from the hospital today. Then a crazy one-year-old cat scampered through my den, and up the side of the couch I'm laying on. I'm certainly home. My heart surgery is scheduled for a week from today. I can only imagine the news I'll hear when the anaesthesia wears off.

Leaky

Last wednesday I was admitted to the hospital for shortness of breath. I had a heart catherization this morning. Good news- My heart is fine, so far as blockages go.(My father twice had bypass surgery, the doctors wanted to rule out my needing the same) Bad news- I need a valve replacement. The surgeon here at JFK(I'm on AOL dialup from my hosp. room. No Wifi, rats.) prefers if I have the operation by someone who specializes in it. There are three possibilities here in Florida, and this surgeon will talk to the possible candidates, seeing who would be best. As soon as this is done, and the new hospital is ready for me, I'll transfer. So surgery is a matter of days away, but no more than a week.

How am I feeling? Ok physically, but mentally not as well. If I don't have the surgery, my aorta will rupture eventually. That would probably kill me, certainly disable me. On the other hand my cancer could get there first. If I got 6 months, I'd really prefer to spend as little time in a hospital. Could look at the bright side, I won't be home most of this month to get phone calls from Fl politicians in the days leading up to our primary.

Leonita would prefer if I 'rest' rather than spend too much time online. It's addictive even if you're not feeling well. You need a fix. I tell Leonita I'm watching Mission Impossible and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea Videos. Which I do, well while not online. ;)
