Commentary, sarcasm and snide remarks from a Florida resident of over thirty years. Being a glutton for punishment is a requirement for residency here. Who am I? I've been called a moonbat by Michelle Malkin, a Right Wing Nut by Daily Kos, and middle of the road by Florida blog State of Sunshine. Tell me what you think.

The Knuckleheads of the Day award

Today's winners are Melanie Bennett and James Daily. Ms. Bennet is the president of the Hattiesburg area Local 1311 of the American Postal Workers Union. Mr. Daily is United States Postal Service District Manager for Mississippi.

The Hattiesburg American is reporting that all Postal workers in the 394 area except for Picayune were required to report the work the morning Katrina came ashore in Mississippi. The phone message that union members were supposed to call was not updated.

The message on Aug. 29 told all workers in the 394 area, except Picayune, to report as normal. It had not been updated at 7:45 a.m. although Katrina had made landfall shortly after 6 a.m. as a Category 4 hurricane and winds were rapidly increasing in the Pine Belt, Bennett said.

Attempts to reach Daily on Friday were referred to the district communication manager Larry Dingman, who said the post office did not intend to endanger workers.

"Employee safety always remains a key priority, especially so in the face of this disaster," he said. "We did not and would not place our employees in danger to perform their duties."

This was supposed to Mr. Daily's job Ms. Bennet is saying. For this mistake, The Hattiesburg American reports that Ms. Bennet wants a congressional investigation to look into the matter.

To all parties involved- GROW up. Mr. Daily you showed a reckless disregard for your employees. Ms. Bennett you are just ridiculous for asking for Congress to look into this. Mr. Daily screwed up, no one was killed. Not like over 150 of your fellow Mississippians.

Melanie Bennett and James Daily you are both co-winners of today's Knucklehead of the Day award.
