I would think the choice would be easy.

What am I talking about? The starting quarterback job for the Miami Dolphins.

After a disastorous 4-12 season in 2004, Miami looked little better this pre-season finishing with a record of 1-4. Other than the return of Ricky Williams who sat out one year of pro football to find himself, the big story in camp has been who will be the Dolphins starting quarterback. The candidates for the job

Gus Frerotte
AJ Feeley
Sage Rosenthals

Frerote is a 34-year-old veteran. Feeley the Dophins acquired for a 2nd round draft pick a year ago. Rosenthals has been the Dolphins third string quarterback for the two previous seasons.

At a press conference yesterday, Dolphin coach Nick Saban didn't give any answers as to who the starter would be. He did however hint at Gus Frerotte.

"You'd like to be fair in the evaluation," Saban said. "Had we had a little better circumstance or a little better field position, Gus didn't really have a lot of opportunities to do much.

"In the second quarter, I felt like we came unglued a little bit. We didn't always have good field position but certainly had better circumstances to operate in and didn't always execute like we'd like. That's not exactly what we wanted to see."

Gus Frerotte played the first quarter and AJ Feeley the second. It appears Saban is leaning towards Ferrotte.

Wrong move. Why do I say that?

Frerotte is a 34 year veteran but he hasn't started a game since 1997! A quarterback rating for this pre-season barely topping 60.(60.2) What has he shown? Very little, one touchdown, one interception for the pre-season.

Feeley has been no better, a QB rating of 59. Except he is five years younger than Frerotte. The Dolphins have a major rebuilding process to undergo. Frerotte is not going to be part of the long-term solution was this team because of his age. So should Feeley be the QB?

No, Sage Rosenthals should be given a shot. He is the same age or a year or two younger than Feely. Yes he's only started one NFL game ever, and thrown less than 50 passes in the league in his lifetime. On the other hand we've seen plenty of what Frerotte and Feeley can do. Feeley split the Dolphin's QB job last year with now departed Jay Fiedler. Enough said. Frerrote has riddent the bench for 7 years.

Rosenthals on the other hand was the only QB this pre-season to show any sign of life. Against Atlanta Sage went 17 of 25 passes for 217 yards on Thursday. Granted this was against Atlanta's reserves, but the Dolphins didn't have their first team out there either.

Miami is a rebuilding process, I think the choice is clear. Lets give Rosenthals a chance to prove himself.
