Norris Hall to reopen

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Officials at Virginia Tech University have announced a plan to reopen offices and laboratories in Norris Hall later this month.

The building, which is where Seung Hui Cho went on a deadly rampage, firing 174 rounds, killing 30 people and wounding 24 others, has been vacant since April 16th.

When the building is reopened on June 18, facilities in the building will be used by the Engineering Science and Mechanics and Civil and Environmental Engineering departments. They were the primary occupants before the shooting.

Dozens of suggested uses for the building were made by faculty students and others, which ranged from returning it to classrooms to making it a memorial to knocking it down, Virginia Tech President Charles Steger said.

Virginia Tech officials said Norris Hall contains sophisticated laboratories that cannot be moved and are essential to the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics.

Officials are developing a plan to convert general classrooms at Norris Hall for other uses.

I still think the University should rename the hall after Professor Librescu. If not for that brave man, more people would have died.

Expect the reaction of the families of those who died on April 16th to be mixed. As it will be from students and faculty at the school.
