Classes may be out for the summer, but a local elementary school may want to brush up on its spelling.

People traveling along 5th Avenue in Lutz early Wednesday morning may have noticed something unusual on a sign at Lutz Elementary.

Someone putting up a sign trumpeting ‘excellence in education’ flunked the spelling assignment, and the sign read ‘excilence’ instead.

Hillsborough County Schools officials said there were not enough letters for the word ‘excellence’ originally, and during the confusion, the letter ‘E’ was misplaced. They say the mistake has been corrected.
