Florida the rules are different here Chapter CXIX

Throwing child porn out in the trash at the apartment house you live at. First rule of thumb if you're going to view such filth- Invest in a shredder purchasable at Walmart. It costs a lot less than a lawyer or time in jail. Don't you just love Florida?

PINELLAS PARK - A Largo man was arrested on nine counts of child pornography possession Tuesday after Pinellas Park police say they linked him to some photographs found in a trash bin at the man’s former apartment complex.

Derek Chandler Litten, 37, of 401 E. Rosery Road, No. 741, was being held today at the Pinellas County Jail on $45,000 bail, a jail spokeswoman said.

On June 7, a man fishing for aluminum cans in a trash bin at the Whetstone apartment complex, 8400 49th St., came across a plastic bag of trash, said Capt. Sanfield Forseth of the Pinellas Park Police Department. The man ripped open the bag and found a sheet containing some 15 thumbnail images of children, Forseth said.

The man contacted Pinellas Park police, and an officer found eight more sheets with images in the trash bag, Forseth said. All nine sheets contained thumbnail pictures of boys and girls, between the ages of 5 and 10, naked or engaging in sex acts, Forseth said.

In the bag of trash was mail that identified Litten as the prior owner of the pictures, but Litten had moved out of the Whetstone apartment complex, Forseth said. Investigators eventually found him working as a stockboy in a Target department store.

Litten admitted to having had possession of the pictures, but he claimed someone gave them to him, Forseth said. He agreed to let investigators take his computer, which has been sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for analysis, the captain said.

For each sheet of images, Litten was charged with one count of child pornography possession, with a total number of nine counts leveled against him, Forseth said.
