Obvious set-up

HOLLYWOOD -- A man hoping to spend time with a woman at a motel early Wednesday was instead shot, beaten and carjacked in what police call "an obvious set-up."

The shooting victim, who is in his mid-20's, is at Memorial Regional Hospital with a gunshot wound to the stomach, said Capt. Tony Rode, police spokesman. The identities of the victim and the others involved were not immediately known.

Here's what happened, according to Rode:

The victim received a call from the woman, whom he had met two weeks earlier in the South Beach area of Miami Beach. They agreed to a romantic rendezvous at Holiday Motel, 1104 S. Federal Highway, around 1 a.m. Once inside the motel room, the woman told the man she had to get something from her car. When she left, a man came out of the darkened bathroom, pepper sprayed the victim and tried to rob him.

The ambushed victim fought back, but to no avail. During the struggle, the attacker shot and beat him.

The attacker then stole the man's wallet and other valuables. He fled with the woman in the victim's green Toyota Camry.

The victim doesn't come off as very smart. You barely know someone and you rendezvous with them at a hotel? You're asking for trouble(STDs too).
