Drive through church
From the Miami Herald-
Two questions- What is a city bus doing on the roads at 4:40 in the morning?
The Rev. Benjamin Aguilar made a startling discovery when he arrived at his church Wednesday morning: a Miami-Dade Metrobus had plowed into the building.
''I was shocked,'' he said. ``I've never seen anything like this.''
According to Segundo Fallat, transit supervisor for Miami-Dade Transit, the accident happened when the bus, which contained only the driver, collided with a white pickup truck about 4:40 a.m. at Southwest Eighth Street and 12th Avenue.
The 40,000-pound Metrobus, driven by Margaret Worsley, 48, then rammed into a concrete divide and into the church, Iglesia del Dios Vivo: La Luz del Mundo. The bus spread glass, metal, plaster, water, concrete and traffic signs throughout the front foyer.
The church was empty at the time.
Worsley was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital. The pickup driver, Leidy Sanchez-Perez, 34, was taken to Mercy Hospital. Both were treated for minor injuries.
Miami police said investigators are having a difficult time determining who was at fault since both drivers claim they had a green light.
The bus has since been towed away, but not before surprised parishioners showed up for the 5 a.m. service.
Aguilar spent the early morning calling members of his congregation to help clean and board up the gaping hole in the front of the building.
What church has services at 5 a.m. on a weekday morning?
Just seems odd to me.
