Today's winner is the Tampa Tribune. They get the award for the following.

MIAMI - The Tampa Tribune picked up five first-place awards Saturday night at the Florida SPJ Awards of Excellence contest, sponsored by the north central Florida chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

The Tribune competed with newspapers that have a circulation of 100,000 or more in the large division.

In addition, sister publication CENTRO Mi Diario picked up a second-place award for Spanish-language publication.

The winners were announced at the 12th annual Sunshine State Awards dinner in Deerfield Beach.

You may be asking what is wrong with this story? There is nothing wrong with a paper blowing its own horn when it wins award. There is however a problem, when they say they won awards at the wrong awards ceremony! The Deerfield Beach dinner was for South Florida, not North Florida as Bob at the Daily Pulp points out. Note- this is an AP article but the Tampa Tribune still published it. They most likely mixed two stories.

Don't you just the love the irony in a Florida newspaper not being able to get the facts right about a Newspaper awards dinner. For sloppy journalism Florida style, The Tampa Tribune is today's Knucklehead of the Day.
