SUNRISE -- Police arrested a 17-year-old Weston boy accused of intentionally running over five Muscovy ducks Tuesday morning.

Four of the ducks were killed and one was seriously injured, Sunrise Police Lt. Robert Voss said.

The teenager, whom the South Florida Sun-Sentinel is not naming because of his age, faces five counts of cruelty to animals. The third-degree felony carries a penalty of up to five years in state prison and a $10,000 fine.

A woman in the 15900 block of West Wind Circle called the Sunrise Police Department at 8 a.m. Tuesday to report that a young man in a 2006 Pontiac was circling the neighborhood, intentionally hitting ducks, Voss said.

"When the duck entered into the roadway, he'd swerve to hit it," Voss said, adding that witnesses think the boy was baiting the ducks with food.

Typical Sun-Sentinel. They won't name the offending teen.

But as Rick at SOTP notes, this comment takes the day.

Oh, this 17yr old belongs in jail for killing the ducks. Stop him now before he moves up to squirrels or 1st graders.

What we need is a duck hate crime law. To make the world safe for Muscovy ducks. Cue the sarcastic laughter
