TAMPA - District 7 city council candidates Joseph Caetano and Frank Margarella were scrambling Tuesday to figure out how to shut down Web sites using their names that link to a hard-core, gay porn site.

Caetano said a supporter brought the site to his attention Tuesday morning. Caetano goes by his full name but registered his campaign Web site at www.joecaetano.com.

That site is fine. But a bogus site using his full first name is causing problems. A prankster bought domains named for the candidates that immediately link to the porn site.

Caetano said he plans to consult with his lawyer about shutting down the site.

Margarella wasn't aware of the site. He doesn't have a campaign Web site.

"Unbelievable," he said. "People told me I should buy my own name for just this reason."

Records on GoDaddy.com show the domains are owned by fictitious companies using the names Praxaeum Studios and Adolfo Anderson. The site administrator is listed as Lilly Muenster of 1313 Mockingbird Lane, the address of the fictional family on '60s TV comedy "The Munsters."

I think this is all pretty harmless. The website was probably done by a foe or rival of Mr. Caetano, and I think the voting public is smart enough to know that.

Dirty politics internet style. It had to happen sooner or later.
