Commentary, sarcasm and snide remarks from a Florida resident of over thirty years. Being a glutton for punishment is a requirement for residency here. Who am I? I've been called a moonbat by Michelle Malkin, a Right Wing Nut by Daily Kos, and middle of the road by Florida blog State of Sunshine. Tell me what you think.

No brainer

Mudville Gazette points to this Washington Post story.

A weeping Kim-Hoan Thi Nguyen kissed her 7-year-old son goodbye at the Ho Chi Minh airport and told him it would be a long time before they would be together again. Little Binh Le boarded the plane and flew off to the States, where his mother hoped he would flourish. It was 1991.

She next saw Le when he visited Vietnam at 12. He cooked her french fries.

He visited again when he was 18 and a recent graduate of Edison High School in Fairfax County. They had a party.

Their next reunion came in December 2004. At his funeral, at Arlington National Cemetery.

Le, a Marine corporal and a Vietnamese citizen, was killed at age 20 while defending his desert base in Iraq. The month after his death, he was awarded U.S. citizenship in a ceremony at which speakers lauded his valor.

Read the entire article. Corporal Le and one other marine died preventing a bomb attack on Camp Tergil.

Now his birth parents want to immigrate to America. Corporal Le who wasn't a citizen at the time of his death, was made one posthumously.

Kim-Hoan Thi Nguyen has applied to Immigration for her and Binh's father to immigrate to America. Under the law, parents of immigrants who die in combat are eligible for permanent residency. Ms. Kim-Hoan applied to Immigration.

She's been turned down. In its usual idiotic and mind-numbing fashion bureaucratic fashion, Immigration doesn't recognize Kim-Hoan Thi Nguyen or her husband as Binh's parents anymore since they gave their son up for adoption.

What a load of bullshit. Their son died for this country. Its the least we can do. If you want to read similiar nightmarish Immigration stories, click here and here.

Congressman James P. Moran Jr is trying to get a private bill through Congress. It's stuck in committe at the moment. This should be a no-brainer for Congress. Instead Congress is showing it don't have a brain. Immigration is a controversial issue right now, and Moran cites that as the reason for the bill being delayed.

Write your congressman and Senators for Corporal Le's parents. Here is also a link to the House Judiciary committee. Demand they be given permanent residency. Their son died for our freedom and giving this couple residency is the least we can do.
