He was taking a nap
Here's a Miami Herald story that will make you laugh more than once.
Mr. Kibbles, you can rest a little easier during your catnaps today. Your kidnappers had their day in court and they pleaded no contest to snatching you from your Coconut Creek home and dumping you in the Everglades. This couple is both cruel and dumb. Yes I hope they have nothing to do with pets ever.
Your tale of adventure and bravery as you made your way back home captured South Florida's heart.
Christopher Cortes was sentenced to 100 hours of community service; his wife, Iris Zuckerman, will serve 50 hours. Defense attorney Peter Patanzo suggested that his clients be allowed to pay instead of performing the service, but Broward Circuit Judge Ginger Lerner-Wren was having none of it.
''I have to tell you that would not be my offer,'' Lerner-Wren said firmly.
Cortes, a Fort Lauderdale firefighter, and Zuckerman stood silently, holding hands.
In February 2005, the couple snatched their neighbor's black cat, drove him 15 miles west to the Everglades, and left him there. Police said Cortes was upset that Mr. Kibbles had been using the bed of his new truck as a litter box.
When Mr. Kibbles miraculously arrived home, it's unclear if he pointed a paw at his captors, but police charged Cortes and Zuckerman with misdemeanor theft and animal cruelty.
The couple will pay a few hundred dollars in court fees in addition to their community service. It's not clear exactly what service they'll perform, but it will not be at an animal shelter.
As you can see the article is written in a humorous vein. However the best laugh comes at the very end.
The cat's owner, Nancy Leonard -- who has since moved to Parkland -- is happy with the sentence, Berkowitz said.LOL! Now you understand the title of my post.
