Commentary, sarcasm and snide remarks from a Florida resident of over thirty years. Being a glutton for punishment is a requirement for residency here. Who am I? I've been called a moonbat by Michelle Malkin, a Right Wing Nut by Daily Kos, and middle of the road by Florida blog State of Sunshine. Tell me what you think.

What's in a name?

Browsing newspaper websites this morning I find it interesting how the Palm Beach Post and Sun-Sentinel report the same story. First the Post-

BOYNTON BEACH — A 97-year-old man caused $15,000 worth of damage to his home when he lost control of his car Saturday morning.

Theodore Wattenberg was backing his Mercury Marquis out of his driveway about 10 a.m. in the Leisureville neighborhood when a driver on the street honked, startling him. Hitting the accelerator, the man drove backward across Southwest 18th Street, destroying a concrete wall on a neighbor's house.

"He panicked," said Sgt. John Bonafair. "Then, as near as we can figure, he shoved the car into drive, still with his foot pressed against the accelerator."

Now the Sun-Sentinel-

A 97-year-old man damaged a neighbor's porch and his own home when backing out of his driveway Saturday morning, police said.

The man, who was not identified by police, backed into the porch in the 1700 block of Southwest 18th Street in the Leisureville retirement community about 10:30 a.m., Sgt. Gladys Cannon said.

Why does the Sentinel article not name the man and the Post does? Both spoke to the police, the Sentinel article says police wouldn't identify the man. Maybe because the Post reporter went to the scene while the Sentinel writer didn't?

Or is because the Sun-Sentinel feels a need to protect a senior citizen's identity. Why do I say this? Read this post from May, the Sun Sentinel felt the perverse need to protect the identity of an attempted murderer. What is it here?

By the way this is just further evidence of why I feel anyone age 70 or older should be tested on their driving skills.
