Senator Joseph Lieberman- Aren't we forgetting?

The Connecticut Democratic Senator was in the news again.

WASHINGTON - Senator Lieberman of Connecticut, fresh from a two-day visit to Iraq over the Thanksgiving holiday, said yesterday he was hopeful American forces could begin a "significant" withdrawal by the end of next year or in 2007.

"The country is now in reach of going from Saddam Hussein to self-government and, I'd add, self-protection," the Democrat said in a conference call with reporters. "That would be a remarkable transformation."

Its been rare of late to hear any Democrat to say something positive about Iraq. Conservative bloggers like Captain Ed who called Lieberman one of the Democrats 'most respected leaders' and Kobayashi Maru who mused about a Lieberman-Armey Presidential showdown in 2008 are just two examples of conservatives praising the former Vice-Presidential candidate.

Not so fast everyone. From Page 341 of the 2004 edition of The Almanac of American Politics.

In the Florida controversy, Lieberman took what to some was a surprisingly partisan role- though of course this was a quintessentially partisan issue. On Suday interview shows he said he and Gore would never challenge legitimately cast absentee ballots. But on the preceding Friday night, lawyers working for the Gore-Lieberman ticket did precisely that.

Those lawyers were partly sucessful in some of their challenges, and in one instance where the challenge was sucessful, Gore-Lieberman campaign lawyers and supporters broke into cheers. Sorry I don't remember the source for this.

This just shows you that Lieberman like most Democrats in power at the moment, is willing to use our servicemen as pawns for their political ambitions. I'm a former servicemen who spent time serving in the Navy and I take this seriously. Lieberman was willing to disenfranchise our servicemen so he could be Vice-President. So don't blame me if I don't jump on his bandwagon. I also think conservative bloggers shouldn't be forgetting the 2000 Lieberman at all.
