Commentary, sarcasm and snide remarks from a Florida resident of over thirty years. Being a glutton for punishment is a requirement for residency here. Who am I? Tiger Woods and history

Tiger is up by four shots over Colin Montgormerie and Jose Maria Olazabel with five holes. Barring a miracle Tiger will win his second British Open and 10th major championship.

ABC television is commentating on how Tiger will become only the 2nd golfer to complete the grand slam of golf two times. Jack Nicklaus did it three times. I do have to correct ABC, they said something about some of those present being there when Nicklaus won the British Open for the second time 35 years ago for a second grand slam. The only thing is, Jack didn't win his second grand slam at the 1970 British Open. Here's why.

Jack's first slam- 62 US Open, 63 Masters, 63 PGA, 66 British Open
Jack's second slam- 65 Masters, 67 US Open, 70 British Open, 71 PGA.

See Jack won the PGA five times, but four of those were post-1970, 71, 73, 75 and 80. The 1971 PGA Championship was played in Palm Beach Gardens FL. I don't see many Scots being there.

That is today's lesson in golf trivia. Class dismissed.

Update- Tiger won by five shots plus ABC later affirmed it was the 71 PGA not the 70 British Open where Jack Nicklaus completed his second grand slam. Maybe I was mistaken in what I had heard earlier.
