Ernie, Laura, Morgan and Dakoda

Some golf notes-

*- Jerry Kelly leads the Verizon Heritage with 18 holes to go. Tied for 2nd one shot back are Ernie Els and Kevin Na.

Ernie, one of the best golfers in the World(1994 and 1997 US Open Champ, 2002 British Open Champ. Winner of 16 PGA Tour titles) is trying to win his first US tournament since 2004. I hope Ernie pulls it off.

*- Similiarly in Orlando, we have veteran Laura Davies trying to end a long drought on the LPGA Tour. She is tied for the lead with Lorena Ochoa with 18 holes to play today.

Laura hasn't won on the LPGA in 6 years and is two points short of qualifying for the LPGA Hall of Fame. Lorena if she won today would become the #1 ranked woman player in the world, passing the injured Annika Sorenstam.

A battle of LPGA heavyweights(pardon the pun Laura) is in store this afternoon. Should make for a good finish.

*- Boca Raton's Morgan Pressel shot a first round 75 before going on to miss the cut this week at the Ginn Club(Orlando tournament). This is a big turn around, for Morgan won the LPGA major the Kraft Nabisco only two weeks ago.

Morgan missed the cut at this same tournament a year ago. I wonder if she puts too much pressure on herself playing close to home. She'll be back to form soon I'm certain.

*- 14-year-old Dakoda Dowd was in the gallery at the Ginn Club yesterday. This comes a year after her playing in the tournament. Jo Dowd is still alive and fighting cancer, according to this article.

Say a prayer for Dakoda and her mother. God bless them both.
