The Knucklehead of the Day award

Today's winner is Kari Barefoot of Riverview Florida. She gets the award for the following.

Kari Barefoot, 41, had asked her boyfriend of three years for money Friday night, and he refused. The two started arguing in their home at 10125 Haverhill Ridge Drive, Hillsborough County sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said.

Barefoot picked up a shoe with a wooden high heel and swung it several times against the left side of Stephen Burgess' head, Carter said. He suffered a large cut, an arrest report states.

Burgess grabbed a cell phone and tried to get away from Barefoot, Carter said.

Barefoot cast the shoe aside, picked up a knife and chased Burgess out of the home, Carter said.

Deputies responded within minutes and arrested her at 11:15 p.m.

Barefoot faces one count each of first-degree felony aggravated battery with great bodily harm and third-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She remained at Orient Road Jail without bail late Saturday.
