PORT CHARLOTTE -- A woman was hit by a rolling car Thursday afternoon at a car wash and and pinned against her own car.

The car, which was in neutral, bypassed the car stopper at the end of the car wash at U.S. 41 and Crestview Circle, went down a slight incline and hit the woman, said Ray Nowicki, the owner of the Touch of Class II car wash. No one was behind the wheel.

"It was a runaway car that went down the hill," Nowicki said.

The woman, who is between 65 and 70 years old and whose name was not released, was transported by ambulance to Fawcett Memorial Hospital with minor leg injuries, said Dee Hawkins, spokeswoman for Charlotte County Fire & EMS. She was "barely bumped."

"They didn't even go with lights and sirens," Hawkins said.

Rolf Raabe, a Port Charlotte resident who witnessed the accident, said the red, four-door car that struck the woman was pushed over the stopper by the next car moving through the wash.

The second car bumped into the red one, said Raabe, who ended up jumping into the runaway car and backing it away from the woman.

The car wash operator should never have let the second car through the machine as soon as he did, Raabe said.

"Just be glad it wasn't a little kid," he said.

Yes it is very fortunate this accident didn't involve a child. Anyone remember what happened to Rene Appleby? I'm sure the injured woman will soon be getting phone calls from Accident and Injury attorneys. As for the Sarasota Herald-Tribune......

Why didn't they get John Madden to explain the accident on a chalkboard?(Cue the sarcastic laughter)
