Laziness

Trying to steal the Mayor's car doesn't fall into the category of smart ideas. From today's Palm Beach Post-

LAKE WORTH — Vigilant of crime in the city, Mayor Marc Drautz has been walking the streets each Sunday to help keep them safe. Early Wednesday morning, that crime-fighting experience came in handy.

Roused by his car alarm, Drautz went to check his Mini Cooper. He found suspect Loren Chandler, 22, standing over the car, which had a broken window and torn convertible top. Drautz chased Chandler for a few blocks, then returned home and called police, he said.

"I just wanted to get him away from the house," Drautz said.

His 3-year-old son, Tristan, was sleeping inside the home during the 3 a.m. incident.

Within 10 to 15 minutes of Drautz's call, Lake Worth Police officers saw a man fitting the suspect's description walking in the parking lot of Sneakers Bar & Grille on Dixie Highway. After police stopped Chandler, he refused to get down on his knees and ran away. Police quickly caught up to Chandler and arrested him, the arrest report stated.

Drautz was taken to the scene of the arrest and identified Chandler as the man who had broken into his car and likely stole change and his mayoral identification badge, which were missing.

Chandler was charged with burglary to a motor vehicle, resisting an officer without injury, petit theft, possession of marijuana under 20 grams and dealing in stolen property, the report stated.
Mr. Chandler should learn from this episode that if one is to be a successful thief, one has to case the joint before robbing it. He'll have plenty of time to mull this in a county or state correctional facility to be determined later.

Side note- Will this story help Mayor Drautz and his image? In August 2005 the Mayor had his nose broken during a domestic disturbance with his wife Yasmine. The Post story makes no mention of Yasmine or the couple's other child. Are the Drautzs seperated or divorced?
