The Knuckleheads of the Day award

Our winners today are the newly formed Right Roots, and its endorsers
John Hawkins , Robert Bluey - Human Events Online, Mary Katharine Ham - Townhall, Erick Erickson - RedState, Patrick Hynes - Ankle Biting Pundits, Ed Morrissey - Captain's Quarters, Lorie Byrd - Wizbang, Senator Bill Frist, M.D. - VOLPAC andRep. Jack Kingston. They get the award for their pledging rightroots support for Diana Irey against PA Congressman John Murtha.

I blogged here about why this is such a dumb choice. Murtha has both many times more funds and has been safely re-elected to his seat for over 20 years. It will happen again this year and any more money sent Irey's campaign is a waste of money.

Lets take this description from Rightroots website.

Rightroots is a broad coalition of conservatives joining together in support of a solid slate of Republican candidates for the US House and Senate. Properly funded, these candidates represent our best chance to retain control of Congress and to enact a conservative agenda.

How does supporting a losing candidate in PA help keep GOP control of the house? Here are the 50 most critical house races as noted by Chris Todd. If you go and look, PA12 is not on the list or on what Todd calls races on the fringe.

So Rightroots is supporting Irey for what? Clay Shaw is in a race for his life in the FL22 and Irey if she gets 40 percent it will be an accomplishment. That says a great deal about the political instincts of Rightroots. They can't tell a critical race from a loser.

Lorie Byrd and Captain Ed have either not answered my email or danced around my analysis of this race. Mary Katherine Ham says in reference to me you can't please everyone. Its not about pleasing me, but retaining GOP control of the house and pissing money away on Diana Irey can lose the house for the GOP NOT WIN IT.

If anyone thinks its just me with this belief, two bloggers who own sites I guest blog or co blog with me also question Rightroots political instincts.
