Woof!
The Alaskan Governor's race has gone to the dogs.
Lawn signs are popping up all over Alaska as gubernatorial candidates push their names into public consciousness. In the race to date are three Republicans -- state Sen. John Binkley; Sarah Palin, former mayor of Wasilla; and incumbent Frank H. Murkowski -- and two names on the Democratic side: former governor Tony Knowles and Brinkley.I wish Brinkley well in the campaign. He certainly would be an improvement over some two-legged Knucklehead Governors. One piece of advice to Brinkley-
Brinkley is a 2-year-old golden retriever, whose tongue-flopping smile is plastered on a red-and-white campaign poster. Brinkley's owner, Ruth Sisk, started a write-in campaign for her dog to benefit the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and other nonprofit, pet-friendly causes. Money is flowing in -- $4,000 so far -- from campaign T-shirts ($20 each) and buttons.
Ruth Sisk launched a write-in gubernatorial campaign in Alaska for Brinkley, her golden retriever, to raise money for the ASPCA and other nonprofit groups. And it has drawn $4,000. (By Bob Hallinen -- Anchorage Daily News Via Associated Press)
It started as a joke, Sisk wrote on a Web site devoted to her dogs with a page for Brinkley's campaign, http://www.1chick2woofers.com/gov.php .
The pooch has seven committed write-in votes, Sisk wrote.
"If Alaskan dogs could vote -- he'd have this race for governor thing all wrapped up!" Sisk wrote. "And while we wish all the candidates well in this race for Gov. -- watch out! Here comes Brinkley!"
Don't eat any treats given to you on the campaign trail. The contributors will expect something in return if you're elected.
