Pity
If you recall I gave a Knucklehead award to Palm Beach Post columnist George McEvoy last Sunday. He has another column out today. Last week he attacks President Bush for speaking before military audiences, now he attacks President Bush for speaking before a civilian audience.
Sound familar?
President Bush finally spoke to a gathering of civilians last Wednesday, and the experience seemed to leave him all shook up.
Usually, he likes to deliver his tough-guy, hawkish messages to an audience of soldiers, sailors or Marines. That way, he can come on stage with his "Mission Accomplished" strut, and he can be assured the troops will applaud and shout "Hoo-Rah!" at all the right moments. But with civilians, you never can be sure...
Actually, he didn't have too much to fear from Wednesday's group. They all were members of the Council on Foreign Relations, former ambassadors, foreign-policy experts and the like. They might disagree with George W.'s views — and many of them apparently do — but they aren't the types who would boo or loudly argue with him. They are, after all, people steeped in diplomacy.
Still, the sight of all those middle-aged guys in suits and ties must have scared the bejabbers out of George W. He began his Pearl Harbor Day talk by saying the date was Sept. 7, but quickly corrected himself to Dec. 7.
After that, he tripped over his tongue several more times — having the most trouble with the word disposal for some reason — and appeared tense and nervous.
First Mr. McEvoy acts like an bitter old man. Now he acts like a immature juvenile. Then why should any of us be surprised.
Why do I call him an immature juvenile. His picking on the President for the way he speaks. It reminds me of the abuse I and other children take when growing up because we have or had speech impediments. They do it because they themselves are insecure and weak. They have to find a target to attack to show they aren't weak. So they pick the easiest target.
This isn't the first time someone has made fun of the way President Bush talks, but it just a symptom of how small these people McEvoy and other liberals are. Riddicule and make fun of those who that are different. And who is the enlightened one in favor of diversity?
Mr. McEvoy is no better than the schoolyard bullies who I got beat up by. At his age too, I take
pity on this old man.
By the way Marines and sailors are defined as Soldiers in the Merriam-Webster dictionary. No need for the words sailors and Marines. Mr. McEvoy is no more perfect than me or President Bush. There is however one difference between me and this columnist.
At least I can admit it.
