One thief stealing from another thief?

Some news out of the Philippines. Christie's Auction house has begun appraising jewelry seized from Imelda Marcos, the wife of the late Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos. The jewelry is believed to be worth ten million dollars and a auction will be held to sell it later this fall.

I just wonder how much of the auction proceeds will go in the Philippine treasury. Like I said before about Philippine politics, same dog different collar.

MANILA, Philippines - Representatives of Christie's auction house on Thursday began appraising jewelry seized from the widow of the late Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos for auction in Europe as early as November.

The government plans to sell three collections of Imelda Marcos' jewelry, initially estimated to be worth at least $10 million, said Ricardo Abcede, a member of a government commission recovering the Marcos family's allegedly ill-gotten wealth.

Two Christie's gem experts arrived Thursday at the Philippines' Central Bank, where the jewels have been held in a vault since they were seized following the massive street protests that toppled Ferdinand Marcos in 1986.

Abcede, a member of the Presidential Commission on Good Government, said it would take at least two days to inspect and appraise the collections, including a set of a diamond-encrusted bracelet, earrings and brooch believed to be worth at least $1.48 million.
