Terrorists and illegal immigration
One of my favorite bloggers Lashawn Barber has a good post on how we need to enforce our immigration laws or face the possibility of another terrorist attack.
Quoting two reports from the Center for Immigration studies LaShawn points out Homeland Security' hapless record when it comes to illegals.
The report provides newly compiled data on U.S. terror arrests to illustrate gaps (GAPS?) in the nation’s border security, visa approval and immigration systems. It was written by Janice Kephart, who served as counsel to the 9/11 Commission that investigated missteps leading to the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
“The attack of 9/11 was not an isolated instance of al-Qaida infiltration into the United States,” the 46-page report found.
“In fact, dozens of operatives both before and after 9/11 - other than the 9/11 hijackers - have managed to enter and embed themselves in the United States, actively carrying out plans to commit terrorist acts against U.S. interests or support designated foreign terrorist organizations,” the report concluded. “For each to do so, they needed the guise of legal immigration status to support them.”(Emphasis added) (source)
Almost all of our politicians, up to and including President Bush have disgraced themselves on the illegal immigration problem. It's not just immigrants in here illegaly, it's a security problem. Our enemies see our lax policy and they have and will exploit it. How many more Americans have to pay with their lives before our politicians do something?
As I say a revolution is bound to happen in this country, our politicians serve no one but themselves and their contributors. I've always felt the reason Bush and others turn a blind eye to illegals, is because big business depends on this low cost labor. They donate money to both Democrats and Republicans wanting our elected officials to ignore the issue. These knuckleheads just see dollars instead of the threats posed.
I do have one minor quip with what Lashawn says. All immigration laws don't need to be tightened. We need to enforce the laws we have, that's what is wrong in my opinion.
See right now the people who the laws are enforced against most often, are legal immigrants. This country does need some legal immigrants to fill nursing, teaching and some technical jobs. Making it tougher for these workers and those who hire them serves no purpose.
Another seldom mentioned immigrant, are relatives of US citizens or legal resident aliens. I petitioned for my Philippine born wife to immigrate to the US in 1989. It took five and a half months to complete the process. Today it would take over a year. Do we need to separate families more than we do? Thousands of our US serviceman in places like Japan, Germany, Korea, marry foreign nationals every year. Throwing more roadblocks in the path of these people isn't called for. I'd rather see our soldiers get expedited service.
Just a little spin on this from Lantana Florida
