Florida the rules are different here Chapter CLXVIII
The things Floridians do with their spare time. Like building a 9,000 lb rubber band ball. Isn't this a great state or what!
LAUDERHILL (CBS4) ― Four and a half years after he started, a South Florida man has clinched the Guiness World Record for the largest rubber band ball. Yes, a giant ball made entirely of rubber bands, of all shapes, sizes and colors.
27-year old Joel Waul of Lauderhill started with just a few rubber bands more than four years ago, Now, $10,000 and 700,000 rubber bands later, Waul has built the world's biggest rubber band ball.
The rubbery spectacle, which he calls Nugget or Megaton, sits under a tarp in his driveway. It's 9,032 pounds, and towers more than six-feet tall.
The 27-year-old says the ball has been sponsored by two companies so he will add another 4,000 pounds to it.
Waul's ball beats out the current 4,594 pound record. Waul, who started working on his ball in 2004, says the ball is famous in his neighborhood.
"Some of them don't believe it. Some of them knock on my door when I'm sleeping. They take pictures with it. Stuff like that," he said.
