Soft landing

The Miami bound jet with Charlie Crist aboard came down to earth smoother than GOP hopes to retain the White House did last week. From the Tampa Tribune-

SARASOTA - After an emergency landing at Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport this afternoon, Gov. Charlie Crist took another plane bound for Miami.

Crist flew from Bushnell this afternoon en route to a news conference in Miami, where he was scheduled to announce a change in the deal to buy U.S. Sugar and restore the Everglades.

The plane purportedly had been repaired last week after a generator stopped working, Crist said. He said the pilot decided to land in Sarasota at about 1:30 because the plane started to make a humming noise similar to the sound it made last week.
What was it humming Melancholy Baby? The Heat is on in Saigon? We're on all time high?

Crist said the plane also was out of oil.
Then I guess Jiffy Lube didn't do the last oil change.

While his staff scrambled to find another plane for Crist, he spent his time at the Hilton Garden Inn across the street from the airport.
The Governor really had to rough it afterwards. I feel sorry for him...almost. Cue the sarcastic laughter. If the Governor ever has an emergency landing at Lantana airport, he's welcome to come pay me a visit. My home is less than a mile from the small airport.

All joking aside, two prominent US politicians have died in plane crashes over the last 15 years. Minnesota Senator Paul Wellstone in 2002 and South Dakota Governor George S. Mickelson in 1993.
