The Knucklehead of the Day award

Today's winner is Scott Durbin. He gets the award for the following.

HOLLYWOOD -- Authorities say Scott Durbin is a lucky man.

He had been drinking with his three buddies on the Carnival Liberty since it left Fort Lauderdale about 4 p.m. Sunday, FBI officials said.

The group left the casino area after 11 p.m. to go outside, where Durbin climbed into a lifeboat, said FBI spokeswoman Judy Orihuela.

"He took the ax and started to chop at the ropes," she said.

The boat's assistant chief of security came out to get him to stop. He started climbing toward the 29-year-old Rockville , Md., man and told him to get down.

"Then he jumped into the water," Orihuela said.

Durbin plunged almost 36 feet into the water about 50 miles off Boca Raton at about 11: 35 p.m. He was rescued less than an hour later by a Coast Guard cutter that happened to be nearby.

What an idiot. Scott Durbin is a a deserving Knucklehead of the Day.
