The latest Florida 22nd congressional news.
Tallahassee – Despite efforts by national, state and local Republicans to woo him into running, state Rep. Adam Hasner, R-Boca Raton, said Tuesday evening he's decided not to run for Congress next year.TFM is no fan of Hasner, he along with Congressman Klein are former Knucklehead award winners. I am sticking by my prediction, the GOP will not win back this congressional district before the next redistricting in 2012.
Hasner, 37, who is serving his third term in the Florida House of Representatives, had been considered one of his party's leading prospects to challenge freshman U.S. Rep. Ron Klein, D-Boca Raton, in 2008.
Klein won the Broward-Palm Beach county seat last fall in one of the nation's most contentious and expensive congressional races, upsetting veteran U.S. Rep. Clay Shaw, R-Fort Lauderdale.
Hasner also represents parts of both counties; 22 percent of his district is in Klein's territory.
Hasner said he had been giving the possibility serious consideration in recent weeks, but decided in the past few days to remain in Tallahassee, and began alerting key political supporters.
Currently deputy majority leader, Hasner stands a good chance of becoming majority leader in two years when state Rep. Ray Sansom, R-Destin, becomes House speaker.
