The Knuckleheads of the Day award
Today's winners are Matt Lauer and NBC's Today show. They get the award for the following.
TAMPA, Fla. -- The former Tampa middle-school teacher who admitted having sex with a 14-year-old student is telling her story on national television. This is sick. A major television network feels the need to broadcast a convicted child molestor. That's what knucklehead winner Lefave is. NBC can talk to anyone about bipolar illness. Why Lefave? Because they're interested in ratings, and her sick story(which won't be told but is used as a lure to get viewers) is the only reason she is being given this opportunity.
Debra Lafave is serving three years' house arrest. She sought and was granted an exception to the guidelines of her sentence to meet NBC's Matt Lauer for an interview that will be broadcast later on the "Dateline" program.
The judge accepted Lafave's guilty plea to two counts of lewd and lascivious battery in November. Court records show he granted her permission Monday for the interview.
Her lawyer said Lafave wanted to explain her bipolar illness "in hopes that it might be beneficial to people when they hear about it."
Prosecutors didn't object to the interview because the 25-year-old was not compensated, a condition of her sentence.
Lauer and the Today show should be ashamed of themselves but I guess they feel this is ok. It isn't, and for being a couple of sickos in pursuit of ratings, Matt Lauer and the Today Show are today's knuckleheads of the day.
