Commentary, sarcasm and snide remarks from a Florida resident of over thirty years. Being a glutton for punishment is a requirement for residency here. Who am I? Big change for small change

From today's Palm Beach Post-

John Paul Kent badly wanted his three dollars.

*****

According to sheriff's reports, the 74-year-old Kent prepaid $40 to fill his rusty, maroon 1986 Oldsmobile Delta 88 at the Cumberland Farms gas station, 2001 N.E. Savanna Road. He ended up pumping only $37 worth of gas.

When he went inside to get his $3 in change, the clerk had trouble opening the cash register. She told him to come back in the morning to see the manager.

Kent got angry.

He left the gas station about 10:20 p.m. and was back 40 minutes later, allegedly pointing a 9mm gun at Plattner.

That's when he unloaded five bullets in the store, authorities said. No one was hurt.

When they located his car, a magazine of bullets was on the driver's seat, according to the report.

Kent refused on Sunday afternoon to come out of his small studio apartment, which was littered with empty packs of beer, boxes of cat litter and dirty dishes.

He fired a shot in the apartment about an hour before he walked out of the house and surrendered, according to sheriff's spokeswoman Jenell Atlas.
Neighbors believe Kent had a breakdown. That seems plausible since going to jail for three dollars makes no sense to me.
