South Koreans 6, Annika 1

Seon Hwa Lee kissing the tournament trophy after winning the Shoprite Classic played in New Jersey this weekend. The 20-year old South Korean native won by three shots.

I blogged about Lee once before. Seon Hwa's win today further cemented her lead in the Rookie of the year standings. She had been sucessuful on the Futures tour, and while Ai Miyazato and Morgan Pressel got the press, Seon Hwa has brought home the dough. She is not in the top five money winners for the year. Seon Hwa has 3 second place finishes in addition to the win.

Annika Sorenstam finished second. Fpr the third time in a row, Annika couldn't piece it together on Sunday when either either tied for the lead or one shot out of the lead going into Sunday. Holding Annika to high(some say impossible) standards, the media is talking more and more about a slump. Annika is the top 5 money winners, there are 100+ golfers on tour who would take her slump.

The title of my post refers to a prediction made by the Palm Beach Post at the beginning of the year. They said players from South Korea would have as many wins as Annika at year's end. I'm surprised by the current standings, but only for Annika's failure to win more often. The ROK keeps rolling out more talented women golfers every year.

Thursday will see the beginning of the LPGA Championship. Annika is the defending champion. I still say she is the one to beat, but she is certainly no lock.
