Commentary, sarcasm and snide remarks from a Florida resident of over thirty years. Being a glutton for punishment is a requirement for residency here. Who am I? I've been called a moonbat by Michelle Malkin, a Right Wing Nut by Daily Kos, and middle of the road by Florida blog State of Sunshine. Tell me what you think.

No free lunch for Shelley

My State House Representative has primary opposition in September.

Construction company owner Jeff Murphy, the new Democratic primary challenger to GOP-targeted state Rep. Shelley Vana, D-Lantana, is the brother of former county Republican Executive Committeewoman Elizabeth Murphy. Both Murphys
say Jeff Murphy's candidacy is legit and not a GOP ploy to weaken Vana before her expected November swing-district showdown against Republican House hopeful Rob Siedlecki.

Jeff Murphy said he's running because his experience with hurricane repairs has convinced him of the need for insurance reform. Elizabeth Murphy, an attorney from Palm Beach who's considering a run for elections supervisor in 2008, calls her brother "a great man, even though he's a Democrat."

Shelley who doubles as either a Teacher's Union President and or science program coordinator has never had primary oppoisition in the past. I always thought multiple legitimate candidates in a primary were good for democracy. It's the incumbents and party higher ups who see otherwise.
