Pope Benedict and his visit to Auschwitz
Yahoo news caption- Pope Benedict XVI enters the cell, where Polish priest Maximilian Kolbe died after volunteering to replace a family man due to be killed, at the former Auschwitz death camp May 28, 2006. Pope Benedict visited the Auschwitz death
Dear Wife and I visited that very same cell during a trip to Poland during August 2000. I checked earlier, DW and I took very few photos of our visit to Auschwitz. The place has an air about it. It makes you not want to keep your meomories in photos. At least for me and the wife, but we do vividly remember our visit there.
Pope Benedict said something interesting during his visit-
"In a place like this, words fail; in the end, there can be only a dread silence, a silence which itself is a heartfelt cry to God: Why, Lord, did you remain silent? How could you tolerate all this?"
I think it is natural for any or woman to feel the need to ask this question. Almost all of us have experienced some tragedy that leaving us wondering the why. For me it's the death of my son Daniel. My Dear Wife is incredibly wonderful and giving person. I can't go in depth into part of what happened during dear wife's pregnancy, but our church and the local diocese here threatened to turn their backs on us. So called people who sermonize on the dignity of life, instead abandoning a mother and child who were in desperate straits. Many would like to know why God allowed the holocaust. I'd like to know why now Cardinal Thomas O'Malley(Former Bishop of Palm Beach) allowed what he did to happen to my wife and son? There is evil in the church today, don't ever think otherwise. The Catholic Church if it has to choose between money and a life, will take the almighty dollar.
Professor Bainbridge has some good comments on what Benedict XVI said
