Commentary, sarcasm and snide remarks from a Florida resident of over thirty years. Being a glutton for punishment is a requirement for residency here. Who am I? I've been called a moonbat by Michelle Malkin, a Right Wing Nut by Daily Kos, and middle of the road by Florida blog State of Sunshine. Tell me what you think.

Will Immigration deport this woman?

Filipino Movie Star Nora Aunor has been accepted in Los Angeles County's Drug Court Program. Last March Ms. Aunor was arrested at LAX when 8 grams of methamphetamine and a glass pipe were discovered in her carryon bag.

I'm wondering why Ms. Aunor is not being deported. She isn't a US citizen, I'm not sure if she is a resident alien. It don't matter. Will immigration do so but not till after she does this drug court program? And if they don't deport her, then why? Is it because Aunor is famous and has money? If so this makes me angry and further worsens the contempt for Immigration I have. My brother-in-law was deported last January for overstaying his visa one day. He wanted to spend time with his mother who is recovering from cancer. Leoncio was a cruise ship musician and the primary income source for many of his family in the Philippines. Now he can't re-enter the US for 10 years. Immigration is one big screw up and if you don't believe me, read this post too. If the law is supposed to be applied in the same fashion, Ms. Aunor should be deported too.

Advocates of eliminating birthright citizenship want to put the matter into the hands of immigration. When legal US residents and citizens start getting deported, what are you going to say? You're sorry. Trust me it will happen, Immigration can't even get current law correct.

LOS ANGELES - Nora Aunor, one of the Philippines' most popular film and music stars, was accepted into the county's drug court program and may avoid time behind bars for a drug possession charge.

"Nora will be going through a program requiring much introspection and discipline," her lawyers from the firm Edelberg & Espina wrote in a statement released Thursday.

"This is a challenging process for anyone and more particularly for Nora, who is far away from her country and her family, especially during this Christmas season."

Aunor, 53, was arrested March 30 at Los Angeles International Airport after security screeners allegedly found 8 grams of methamphetamine and a glass pipe in her carryon bag.

Known as "The Superstar" to her fans, she has appeared in more than 170 films and recorded more than two dozen albums, including scores of hit singles. On-screen, she has starred with leading men of her time, including Joseph Estrada, who became the country's president.

Although she retains her Philippine citizenship, Aunor has spent much of her time in recent years at her home in Linda Vista, several miles north of San Diego.

Aunor, whose real name is Nora Cabaltera Villamayor, will receive counseling and treatment at a live-in or outpatient center and will undergo frequent drug tests, said Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the district attorney's office.

Her criminal case will be dismissed if she completes the program by remaining drug free for at least six months, Robison said.
