Commentary, sarcasm and snide remarks from a Florida resident of over thirty years. Being a glutton for punishment is a requirement for residency here. Who am I? I've been called a moonbat by Michelle Malkin, a Right Wing Nut by Daily Kos, and middle of the road by Florida blog State of Sunshine. Tell me what you think.

The Knucklehead of the Day award

Today's winner is Robert Marone from Cape Coral Florida. As the Fort Myers News-Press reports, Mr. Marone was fined Tuesday for feeding an aligator need his home. The case against Mr. Marone was helped by the fact that a neighbor took his photo during the feeding.

I won't post the entire article. Feeding an aligator is a second degree misdemeanor in Florida. It is not often enforced because of lack of proof. Mr. Marone didn't know about the law and wondered what the harm was in his actions. He says he had been feeding the aligator pizza for months. Also Mr. Marone said.

Marone said he has stopped feeding the gator, but he still doesn't understand all the fuss. The gator was only 2 1/2 to 3 feet long, and it wasn't a danger to anybody, he said.

"I just can't see the harm," he said.

Mr. Marone seems to forget aligators are wild and potentially dangerous animals. A 2 or 3 foot long gator may not seem a hazard to an adult but they can be to pets and more importantly children. These are not things to be toyed with or fed like they are some kind of pet. Wildlife experts will tell you that once animals such as here get accustomed to people feeding them, they can mistake small adults or children as FOOD. It has happened in Florida.

For being ignorant and potentially putting his neighbors in danger, Mr. Robert Marone is today's Knucklehead of the Day.
