The Knucklehead of the Day award

Goes to Florida Congressmen Robert Wexler(D) who still can't get over the 2000 Presidential result. It came out yesterday that Supreme Court nominee John Roberts visited Florida and met Gov. Bush after the 2000 election and before the USSC handed down their decision that ended the controversy. Below is part of the article from today's Palm Beach Post.

As the nation watched Florida's attempt to unravel its tangled election, Roberts, then an attorney with Hogan & Hartson LLP in Washington, traveled to Florida "at his own expense and met with Gov. Bush," DiPietre said in response to an e-mail sent to Bush Wednesday by The Palm Beach Post.

The governor's office was embroiled in a number of federal and state issues involving the dispute between then-Texas Gov. George W. Bush and Democratic Vice President Al Gore. Democrats insisted that thousands of ballots had been improperly counted or not counted. Gore was convinced that most of those questionable ballots, if counted correctly, would lead to his victory.

Legal teams for both candidates filed numerous court actions. Roberts, a Harvard-trained lawyer who argued 39 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, met with the governor in

Tallahassee to "share what he believed the governor's responsibilities were under federal law after a presidential election and a presidential election under dispute," DiPietre said.
DiPietre did not reveal what advice Bush received.

U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler, D-Delray Beach, seized on Roberts' recount role and urged the U.S. Senate to reject his nomination.

"President Bush's nomination of Judge Roberts threw salt on the wounds of the thousands of
Floridians whose voting rights were disenfranchised during the 2000 election," Wexler said in a press release.

Aside from his meeting with Gov. Bush, Roberts does not appear to have had significant dealings with any other major figures in the election dispute.

Congressman get a grip on yourself. You're just looking to get yourself in the headlines instead of serving your constituents. The votes were counted, re-counted and re-counted, you hate the result and anyone who is even remotely revolved around it. If you can't get over it, I suggest you see a good psychiartrist for your obsession. Congressman Wexler you are the knucklehead of the day.
