The Knuckleheads of the Day award
Today's winners are Congressmen Alcee Hastings and Jim McDermott. Hastings gets the award for the following.
U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Miramar, was one of only nine House members last week to vote against a resolution "recognizing the importance of Christmas and the Christian faith."In all fairness to Hastings, eight other members of Congress joined him in voting the way he did. Including Congressman Jim McDermott who had this idiotic reasoning for voting no.
A Hastings statement said the resolution was "not about supporting Christmas. It was another sad attempt by conservative Republicans to skew the line between Church and State and impose their belief that America is a Christian nation."
U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler, D-Delray Beach, who voted against a similar Christmas resolution last year, was absent for last week's vote. U.S. Reps. Ron Klein, D-Boca Raton, and Tim Mahoney, D-Palm Beach Gardens, supported the resolution.
The veteran Seattle Democrat voted against a House resolution recognizing the importance of Christmas, but called it a protest against President Bush's veto of a children's health care bill.I'd say there was a lot of stupidity happening here Congressman and I've been supportive of the S-chip legislation.
"While the Republicans are passing a resolution celebrating Christmas, the president was vetoing health care for children. There's a little bit of irony going on around here," McDermott said Thursday.
Hastings and McDermott have shown themselves to be both far removed from reality in addition to being partisan hacks. Even Christmas is some how about politics. I'd think most of the American public would disagree with these two. So do I, and I'm a registered Democrat.
Congressmen Alcee Hastings and Jim McDermott are today's Knuckleheads of the Day.
