Olli is #1
The Florida Panthers have a new all-time leader in both goals and points.
SUNRISE, United States (AFP) - Olli Jokinen became the Florida Panthers' all-time leader in both goals and points on Wednesday when he scored twice in the first period in the National Hockey League club's 4-3 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers.Jokinen came to the Panthers in one of the all-time most lopsided deals in NHL history. The Panthers getting star goaltender Roberto Luongo too in the same trade.
Jokinen has 356 career points with the Panthers. He passed Scott Mellanby's 354 for for first place when he beat Flyers goaltender Martin Biron with a wrist shot at 2:35 for his first goal of the game.
The score was the third of the season for the 10-year veteran, who added a power-play goal later in the opening period.
That was his 158th goal for Florida, moving the Finn ahead of Mellanby for first place on that list as well.
For three of the last seasons, Jokinen has scored 36 or more goals in relative unanimity. Maybe that will change if the Panthers make the playoffs this year.
