Bags, Job, Now Marriage to go?

Some news from the Sun-Sentinel-

Two managers at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport have been fired for violating government conflict-of-interest policies after an internal investigation alleged they had financial ties to a company that handles passenger luggage.

An audit of Bags to Go and its financial records revealed payments last year of $12,000 to Bryan Malinowski, a business manager for the airport since 2001, and $1,000 to Doris Enriquez, a business manager since 2003.

Investigators alleged both government employees promoted Bags to Go's business, which includes delivering misplaced luggage for airlines and transporting luggage from cruise ships at Port Everglades to the airport.
TFM is assuming Bags to Go has a contractual agreement with the airport to do the services they do. Like this company did or still does with FLL. Otherwise 'losing bags' could have been a profitable scam for the company plus Malinowski and Enriquez.

Malinowski, who oversaw Bags to Go's contract, told investigators that the $12,000 was repayment of a personal loan he made to company president Keith Wiater, to help pay family medical bills. Enriquez said the $1,000 she received was for furniture she sold to a Bags to Go employee.

The investigation arose from a routine audit by Broward County in May of Bags to Go's license allowing it to do business at the airport. A Bags to Go competitor, Bags Inc., also had complained that someone at the airport was promoting Bags to Go's interests. Broward officials have turned their findings over to state prosecutors to determine whether criminal charges should be filed.

Both employees received exemplary reviews from their bosses in the past year. Malinowski, who made $79,000 a year, received a $3,000 bonus in April. Enriquez, who earned $70,000, was promoted in 2005 and received a $3,500 bonus last November.

The Bags to Go ledger shows Enriquez was paid $1,000 in July 2006
Why would a person making $70,000 a year, risk their job for $1,000? Sounds pretty dumb and even more idiotic that Bags to Go didn't hide the payment better. Then there may be an explanation for all of his.

According to the investigative report, Enriquez married Wiater in Nevada in March 2006 and did not disclose it to her supervisors. The report said e-mails in her county account showed she also traveled around the country at Wiater's expense promoting Bags to Go.
Oh Enriquez was getting some action....fringe benefits on the side. Love is deaf and dumb as is so often said. I wonder if Doris feels betrayed now by her husband and his company? Losing your job in part due to your husband's recordkeeping, is not likely to produce marital bliss.
