A 28-year-old Punta Gorda man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly beat a pregnant woman and threatened her with a knife, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Isaia Herrera, 6468 Florida St., was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault on a pregnant woman and false imprisonment.

The woman told authorities Herrera came downstairs after huffing spray paint and started to curse and kick her, stating he didn't care if he hurt the unborn baby, the report said. She is eight months pregnant.

When the victim got up, Herrera allegedly kicked her in the stomach, she told the sheriff’s office. According to the report, the victim said she was cornered in the bedroom while he continued to call her names and blame her because he had been in a physical altercation the prior night.

The victim said she managed to get in the bathroom and lock the door, but Herrera opened it by using a kitchen knife. As Herrera entered the bathroom, he allegedly stabbed the wall and said "I wish I would have stabbed you in the stomach," according to the report.

Herrera prevented the victim from leaving the house, until she said she was getting a ride and not coming back.

Moments later, Herrera was arrested.

There is no reason to attack a pregnant woman, and that makes Isaia Herrera today's Knucklehead of the Day.
