The Knucklehead of the Day award
Today's winner is Adam Potts. He gets the award for the following.
ROYAL PALM BEACH — Adam Carlton Potts may as well have been wearing a name tag Wednesday when, police say, he tried to rob the Regions Bank. This criminal is either incredibly dumb or on drugs. Neither of which matters, because Adam Potts is today's Knucklehead of the Day.
The teller he demanded money from attended the same middle and high school. And Potts' father worked there once, so nearly every bank employee knows him.
"It's amazing the way some of these criminals think," Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office spokesman Paul Miller said.
Wearing black sunglasses and a black pin-striped shirt, the Royal Palm Beach 20-year-old walked up to teller Keshia Dixon around noon, according to the arrest report.
He slipped her a handwritten note claiming he had a gun and wanted $10,000.
She thought it was a joke.
But Potts told Dixon, "I'm serious," the report said.
Dixon said she did not have $10,000 in her register, and he demanded that she "get it," the report said.
Dixon then walked to the back of the bank at 1184 Royal Palm Beach Blvd. to tell co-workers she was being robbed.
When she returned, Potts apparently had had a change of heart and had left, the report said.
After leaving the bank, Potts tried to break into a neighbor's home with a brick paver, authorities said.
He fled after the homeowner recognized him.
