Donald Rumsfeld out, Robert Gates in

I didn't see this move coming but feel its necessary. The more I read about the handling of Iraq, the more I've grown to the conclusion that much of the bungling there is due to the Secretary of Defense.WASHINGTON (AP) -- Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, architect of an unpopular war in Iraq, intends to resign after six stormy years at the Pentagon, Republican officials said Wednesday.

Will Gates be an improvement? He was a career CIA officer who rose from the bottom to director. Gates also served on the NSC in the Carter administration. He also wrote a very dry book about his career . Those superficial clues would tend to say Gates will be no better than Rumsfeld who had been Sec. of Defense once before. I guess we'll soon find out if Gates can do the job.
