Quit Stalling
From today's Sun-Sentinel-
WEST PALM BEACH -- Palm Beach Atlantic University has given toilet paper a whole new meaning.Someone had to come upon this idea sooner or later. But will it stop here? How about advertisements on the walls(No I don't mean phone numbers) or important PSAs? Some how I think those will start appearing in public not just university loos also one day. Any way to make a buck.
Blue-colored newsletters called Stall Talk hang above urinals and on stall doors in most campus restrooms.
Administrators at the Christian-based school searched for an unconventional way to get news and information out to students. E-mails, posters and campus bulletin boards were just too easy to ignore. After all, the 3,100 students are saturated with countless media images every day, including TV, newspapers, Internet and billboards.
Sheena Cunningham, 21, a senior at Palm Beach Atlantic, loves the idea. She said the potty rag helps her stay connected with what's happening on campus. She said students don't always have time to read The Beacon, the campus newspaper. But they never miss Stall Talk.
"Everyone goes to the bathroom," she said. "It's right there. You have no other choice but to read it."
Restroom newsletters are actually fairly common on college campuses. The Stall Street Journal is in residence hall facilities at Whitworth College in Spokane, Wash. There's Flush Facts at Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, Tenn. The library at the University of Texas-Arlington just started Installations last month.
Stall Talk first appeared around 2003 but was published only occasionally. This year it's scheduled to be a monthly feature, a joint effort between the Residence Life and Student Recreation offices.
