HOLLYWOOD – Three bank robbery suspects – one of them dressed as a woman – were arrested Monday morning after trying to flee with a bag of cash from the Bright Star Credit Union on Hollywood Boulevard, police said.
Here's what Detective Carlos Negron, police spokesman, said happened around 10:50 a.m. after officers received a silent bank alarm at the 4743 Hollywood Blvd. credit union:
An officer checking on the alarm was walking towards the bank when a blue GMC Yukon parked nearby suddenly took off at a high rate speed.
While using her radio to alert oncoming units, the officer came face-to-face with two of the robbers who had just exited the bank. One was dressed as a woman. The other was wearing a mask and holding a bag of cash. The officer ordered the suspects to stop, but they ran off.
One was apprehended a block away on Van Buren Street a short time later. The other, the one dressed as a woman, was arrested about eight blocks away, at Buchanan Street and 50th Avenue.
Meanwhile, the Yukon fled west on Hollywood Boulevard until it collided with a beige Toyota Camry, driven by an elderly woman, at U.S. 441. The Yukon then jumped a curve and came to rest in the parking lot of a gas station. The driver attempted to run off, but was quickly arrested.
