Evel Knievel jumps again

Authorities said they don't know why a man tried to jump his all-terrain vehicle over a Golden Gate canal early Wednesday while Tropical Storm Ernesto threatened Southwest Florida.

They said they only know what the results were: Chadrick Wilson, 26, died in the attempt.

Investigating deputies said the accident happened at 1:42 a.m. when Wilson, of 345 14th Ave. N.E. in Golden Gate Estates, tried to jump the canal at the end of the street.

The ATV sailed almost 92 feet before crashing into the embankment.

Wilson, who was not wearing a helmet or other protective equipment, was thrown from the ATV and killed.

A friend called deputies to report the accident.

A man who answered the number from which the call was made, according to sheriff's reports, refused to comment on the accident.

RIP Mr. Wilson.
