What a boar
From the Fort Myers News-Press
A Florida Gulf Coast University student who was chased down by a wild boar on campus is suing the school for more than $15,000.Another hazard of living in Florida! You would think alligators, pythons, hurricanes and bad drivers were enough?
Donna Rodriguez, 52, filed a lawsuit in circuit court Monday that claims the school knew wild boars were creating a "hazard to students at the university" and "an unreasonably dangerous condition," but chose to let the animals run amok.
The failure to control the wild beasts came to a head Oct. 9, 2004, the suit alleges, when one of the boars chased Rodriguez down the south side of FGCU Boulevard. As she fled the pig, Rodriguez tripped and fell, hurting herself so badly she suffered permanent scars and needed medical attention.
In her suit, Rodriguez claims the failure to control the boar problem makes the university liable for the animal attack.
Rodriguez's husband declined to comment when contacted by a reporter from The News-Press.
"We really can't comment on the specifics of the case," said Rodriguez's lawyer, Brian Vigness. "But I can say she was severely injured."
University spokeswoman Susan Evans said school officials could not comment on pending litigation.
While the suit does not list specifics about Rodriguez's run-in with the beast, it does say the accident caused "permanent and
Suit says university knew animals created 'hazard' significant scarring," "disfigurement," and "loss of the capacity for the enjoyment of life."

Rodriguez is demanding a jury trial and wants more than $15,000 in damages.
Her husband, Carlos, 63, also is seeking damages because he "was caused to suffer an impairment of the services, companionship and consortium" with his spouse.
Mr. Rodruiguez is suing for scarring and disfigurement but asking for just $15,000. I guess we need to spend education money on animal management now. Will that include frat houses?(Cue the sarcastic laughter)
