The July 4th Knucklehead of the Day Marathon Part Thirteen
Our thirteenth winner is Dr. Susan Roberts a associate professor of political science at Davidson College. She gets the award for the following op-ed at the Charlotte Observer. Talking about the Flag burning ammendment, Dr. Roberts wrote-
It seems unlikely that the Supreme Court would now uphold an amendment prohibiting flag burning, even with the change in the court's composition.I don't have a PHD in Poli Sci, but I know the Supreme Court doesn't review constitutional ammendments. How did this woman get a PHD?
It isn't that Roberts couldn't be book smart. Instead it is her politics overtaking the facts. An all too common phenomon today.
The Charlotte Observer published a correction
In a column on this page Monday, Susan Roberts wrote that it "seems unlikely that the Supreme Court would now uphold an amendment prohibiting flag burning, even with the change in the court's composition." She meant to write "uphold legislation."
Sorry the column referred specifically to the Flag Burning ammendment. Why would Dr. Roberts then refer to legislation in another paragraph when none was being debated last week? The Observer should have just admitted they allowed a political hack/college professor to write an Op-ed.
Dr. Susan Roberts of Davidson College is our 13th Knucklehead of the day.
