Cold Cash or sad when you think about it
This story has been the cause of much blogging over the last 24 hours.
A few days later, on Aug. 3, 2005, FBI agents raided Jefferson's home in Northeast Washington and found $90,000 of the cash in the freezer, in $10,000 increments wrapped in aluminum foil and stuffed inside frozen-food containers, the document said.James Joyner at OTB asks what is the FBI waiting for? I jokingly replied- For the evidence to defrost.
The 83-page affidavit, used to raid Jefferson's Capitol Hill office on Saturday night, portrays him as a money-hungry man who freely solicited hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes, discussed payoffs to African officials, had a history of involvement in numerous bribery schemes and used his family to hide his interest in high-tech business ventures he promoted in Cameroon, Ghana and Nigeria.
In one instance, at an unidentified D.C. restaurant, Jefferson allegedly exchanged cryptic notes with investor Lori Mody and discussed illegal kickbacks for his children in a telecommunications venture in Nigeria in which she had invested.

About 15 FBI agents, wearing suits, entered Jefferson's office in the Rayburn House Office Building about 7:15 p.m. Saturday and left about 1 p.m. yesterday. Authorities said it was the first time the FBI had raided a sitting congressman's office.
The affidavit was the most damaging material to date in the FBI investigation of Jefferson, 59, who has not been charged and has maintained his innocence. He is also the subject of a House ethics committee inquiry.
Don Surber notes the children angle of the story and wonders if the Jefferson children like cash cicles.
Captain Ed, The Moderate Voice, Kim at Wizbang, California Conservative, Stop the ACLU, Vodka Pundit, A Blog for all, Iowa Voice, Peer Review FL, Michelle Malkin, Don Singleton, Betsy, Poliblog, and many others are also either commenting or wisecracking or both on Congressman Jefferson.
Some people are happy to see a Democrat being caught. I'm not happy. I think its just another sign of how corrupt Washington politics has become. Jefferson was just very dumb and blatant about it. I'm sure there are plenty of people on both sides of the aisle who've covered their tracks and won't be as easy to unmask. Money corrupts, and too much money..... You get it. It has become pervasive throughout both the House and Senate. It's very sad really.
Note- I could have given Jefferson a Knucklehead award today but chose otherwise. He may still win tomorrow's, or when an indictment comes out. I despise crooked politicians from either party.
